Artist: Dennis Zimmerman
My name is Dennis Zimmerman.
I am a watercolor artist who has been painting in that medium for over
thirty years. My BFA is from The Columbus College of Art and Design. I have
a major in Illustration and a minor in Advertising Design. I experienced my
first watercolor class during my freshmen year and have not looked back
since.
I paint exclusively in watercolor and find the medium challenging and
rewarding. I paint on two kinds of surfaces: one, a more traditional
surface, Archies 140# cold press paper and a new synthetic paper called Yupo.
As in all my work, my goal is to explore how light and color work with and
against each other.
Yupo paper enhances these relationships because it is a manmade, nonporous
surface. The paint's inability to penetrate the surface makes for brighter,
more chromatic colors.
The glass like surface of Yupo paper presents special challenges, but in the
end, it allows me to create and present the look and feel I strive for in
all my work.
My goal as an artist is to create art that evokes emotion and interest, not
only in subject matter, but in the execution of the medium. Watercolor is an
organic medium that I do not want to control, but evolve with as each
painting does.
If you have an interest in commissioned
work or are interested in purchasing my paintings or prints, please contact
me at zimfam04@sbcglobal.net or 614-793-8251.
