Artist: Jeanie Auseon
Art-making has been a
constant throughout my life. I taught art for
many years, grades K-12 and college level. I studied at four
professional design schools with focus areas in Interior Design and
Landscape Architecture – both fields continue to inform my work.
Recently I’ve been teaching myself and learning from others the
limitless possibilities of mixed media on cloth. It’s not surprising
that my current work is on fabric as textiles, sewing, quilting and
hand work are part of my heritage. Realism was dominant in past
work. Today my artworks are abstract, stylistically very different
than when I worked in media other than cloth and dyes. I elaborate on
the spontaneous, (and often unexpected), interactions of permanent
dyes to various forms of resist (wax, folding, twisting, blocking,
etc.), on fabric. I then interpretively paint, draw, print, sew,
etc. on the images that evolve from these various processes. The
illusions of movement, balance and depth on a 2-D surface are major
considerations in this form of art-making
