Artist: Jules Knowlton

Natural and constructed forms play a large role in both the conceptual and creative ideology of my work. Structural systems, whether biological, chemical or mechanical and how they intersect and interact inspire my art. Within each system patterns emerge. Issues such as the juxtapositions of unrelated elements, textural incongruities and even the absence of matter, creating seemingly empty but necessary space are all addressed within the work. This in turn leads directly to the formative process - utilizing whatever materials will express the desired outcome. Such themes are given expression through the use of color, film, resin, plaster and 3-dimentional forms. Found objects, beads, fabric, polymer clays and wax may also appear.

Recently my work has become more sculptural. Developing bias relief elements familiar in landscape and architectural models. And its somewhat ironic that successively with each work of art the conceptual has paved the way for singular temporal structural systems to develop, creating a sort of layering of systems reaching from the ideological to the actual.
