Market Mortgage
There is no display in Market Mortgage for the month of June. If  anyone is interested in setting up his/her own exhibit, or if two
people want to go in together to make one display, please let me know. We may have to cancel out altogether on Market Mortgage as
there appears to be little interest in setting up an exhibit there. Liz Stull Contact: lstull@columbus.rr.com

19 attended a free "Chroma Atelier Interactive Acrylics Workshop" on Friday, May 15th at Christian Community Church North, 5586 Olentangy River Road. Jennifer Von Stein, resident US artist with Chroma, an Australian paint maker, was the presenter. Jennifer also gave a program to Worthington Area Art League for our February, 2008 meeting, and the information portion was similar to what she presented on that occasion. The special aspect of this "Painting Party" was the opportunity to actually use the products--both Chroma acrylic paints and their special mediums--for a hands-on experience. Jennifer demonstrated re-hydrating dried acrylic paints so one could blend wet-into-wet again, and showed how the "Interactive" part of the paint got it's name. One "unlock" previously dried paint, glaze, scumble, and keep the paint "open," or moist, for long periods while working, or can seal the paint layer to make it permanent. Jennifer also showed us how to do monoprints using these products, and the effects available with a binding medium for underpainting then painting in a watercolor style. Quite versatile products!

I commend Chroma for making opportunities like this available to us, and for being aware of the needs and desires of the painting community. (Some of the big names in the art supply world could learn a lesson here. In years past, W&N, Grumbacher, Liquitex and others had sales reps that traveled and did similar kinds of presentations, but other than the major vendor shows, they no longer seem to interact with the buying public.) They were the ones who sought us out to give up this chance to learn up close.

WAAL was well represented, as was the Dublin Area Art League, and an artist member of the hosting church was also present.

Charles Rowland will be teaching a series of watercolor workshops and classes at the Jodie McCallum Gallery in Marblehead , Ohio this summer. The current schedule includes two one day workshops and three evening classes. Attached is a registration form and description of the classes. Due to delays in getting the brochure out, the registration deadline for the first workshop has been extended. Please call or email Charlie (740 548 4976 or cwrowland@aol.com) with any questions.

Tenny Williams just hung an exhibit in the connector hall between the Westminster and Thurber Towers - the Westminster-Thurber art space - 645 Neil Ave. The subject is "Central Ohio Jazz Artists." He has tried to tell a story of the role of the portraited folks in the evolution of central Ohio jazz - folks who left a legacy; the two nationally respected big bands; the role of smaller groups and of "Jam Sessions" in giving performance opportunities to good musicians who. for whatever reason have not become part of regular performing groups; and young performers who guarantee the survival of jazz. The exhibit will be up all of March and April.
