We have greatly appreciated the participation of Central Ohio Plein Air in the Finding Time program. This weekend we're holding one of the key events of the year of public art in the downtown, and it is our hope that you will be able to attend some, if not all, the programming.
You may RSVP by clicking anywhere in the announcement card below. Friday evening reception to acknowledge and thank all artists, sponsors, partners and collaborators:
· Jeff Sims, Creative Producer for the Museum, has been documenting the projects all year long. He is finishing a video overview of all 13 projects that will be screened for the first time Friday evening. Thanks to two of the composers in the Trinity Church Chime project, we will have a special feature that evening. That's all I am at liberty to reveal — you have to come to see for yourselves.
· The program team and Base Art Co., our ace graphic designers (and yours), have been working on a booklet about the program. It is at the printer now and will be done in time for the forum. Copies will be available Friday evening.
Saturday panels:· Although Finding Time: ColumbusPublicArt2012 was conceived as a temporary program, the ultimate goal has been to lay the groundwork for an ongoing public art program for the City of Columbus. We have organized two panels and will hear from Jason Schupbach, Director of Design at the National Endowment for the Arts. We aim to put the yearlong program in context and to learn from public art administrators and artists working in the public realm as we consider the future of public art in Columbus.
We look forward to this occasion for artists, sponsors, partners, collaborators, members of City departments, and friends of public art to meet, celebrate, and look ahead. I hope to see you there.

Renate Fackler has been focused on this project for the last 12 months, and wanted to share my progress to date- Each scene is composed of a four foot tall relief and two, 32" 3-D figures- I'm detailing the figures scene by scene, and expect the first scene to go to foundry early November. I'll keep you posted as things progress- we plan to install it at the Church of the Resurrection in New Albany by Easter

This year 24 Central Ohio Plein Air/WAAL artists were chosen to paint scenes of downtown Columbus directly on the sides of buildings. These were 36 x 24 inch acrylic paintings with the permission of the property owners. This was an idea formulated by Malcolm Cochran who scouted out sites for the paintings. Cleve Ricksecker and Valerie Goettler from Capital Crossroads 24 North Fourth Street performed the administrative work. As soon as it warmed up enough this Spring so that we could use the acrylic paints supplied by Golden Paint Company, we started painting. Sue Otten was the first artist to complete her painting and that was soon followed by Bob Tanner and Bill Westerman. Ruth Ann Mitchell then completed her painting and then there was a flurry of painting by Janet Painter, Julie Ricketts, Jim Glover, Deb Haller, Carol Granger, Andy Quisumbing, Marty Husted, Marianne Miller, and Tom Cole and Aida Garridy. All 24 paintings have not yet been completed, but we will be working on the remainder to get them finished before it gets much colderWe want to thank Malcolm Cochran for the opportunity to do the paintings and obtaining the grant money to support the artists efforts. Golden Paint Company was very generous in supplying each artist with a packet of their Acrylic Paints.
The property owners were especially accommodating to allow for us to paint the scenes on the sides of their buildings.
Should you wish to view the paintings you can find them in the area bounded by High Street on the West perimeter, 4th Street on the East, Broad Street on the South, and Long Street on the North. Slideshow: with music

From Vivian Ripley: I have several accomplishments to share with WAAL members.
I currently have a watercolor in the “Adirondacks 31st Annual Show of American Watercolors” in New York. This month I also have a pastel in “viewpoint” at Cincinnati Art Galleries. If you’re in downtown Cincinnati I recommend this show - many beautiful works.
I’m sending 2 pastels to the “Degas Pastel Society National Exhibition” for September in Louisiana. I’m thrilled to have a watercolor accepted into the Kentucky Watercolor Society “Aqueous USA” show for October. I am now a signature member of that organization.
