Sibylle Custis was born in Germany and spent most of her
formative years in West Berlin, where she moved with her family in the fall of
1950. At an early age she expressed interest in the creative arts and took
her first steps into this field by working as an apprentice in a bookbinding and
printing shop while studying sculpture and fashion drawing after graduation from
High School in 1957. In the spring of 1958, Sibylle moved to
the famous Amerika Haus in Berlin where she worked in the art studio.
Later in that same year she began her formal art training at the Meisterschule
Fur Graphic und Buchgewerbe Berlin and graduated with a degree in Graphic art in
1961.
Sibylle moved to the United
States in the winter of 1961, and since her arrival has observed this country
and its people in many settings caused by several transfers connected with her
husbands career.
Continuing her art study,
Sibylle has successfully completed Oil and Acrylic painting courses through
Moraine Valley Community College, Chicago; Drawing and Design at Wright State,
Dayton; and Watercolor at Grover Cleveland Art Institute; Oklahoma City.
Additionally, she has completed several workshops in Batik, Watercolor, Jewelry,
Sculpture, Silk Screen, Handmade Paper, Collages, and Calligraphy with local
artists and art groups.
Sibylle has exhibited her work
throughout the United States and it can be found in private collections in
this country, Germany, and Sweden. Locally she has pieces in the permanent
collection at the Zanesville Art Center, OCLC, Metro Place in Dublin along with
several others.
Sibylle presently resides in
Worthington, Ohio and is a member of the Worthington Area Art League, Women's
Art Guild of Central Ohio and was a previous member of the Columbus Art
League, Penwomen of America, Artreach and the Dublin Area Art League. She
previously exhibited with the Women Artist's Expo annually.
