Judge's  Comments:

I would like to than the Worthington Area Art League, for the privilege and pleasure of judging "Anything Goes". It was a very strong show, and for that reason quite difficult  to judge. I took my time viewing each piece and it took almost two full hours for me to decide . I wish that I could have given many more awards that were available. "The Blue Heron" of Renate Burgyan-Fackler was totally captivating and beautifully executed. It would be a welcome addition to ANY collection in ANY museum that I have visited. "Outside Millersburg 1" by Jeff Regensberger captured that sweet light  of the early morning and late afternoon in his jewel of a miniature. Bob Tanner's "East Harbor, Marblehead" captured the landscape, light and sense of place in beautifully rendered landscape. Dennis Zimmerman's watercolor "Albequerque" was full of energy and masterful control at the edge of chaos, in deceptively difficult medium. I could easily have had 20 Honorable Mentions, but I was limited to three. The blanket of floral pattern of Bonnie Smith's "Sunset from the Sand Dunes" has the magical feel of a Rousseau or a carefully painted Japanese screen. Another went to Chuck Harris for his "West Foggy Pines", a painting with stillness of Edward Hopper, full of mystery and questions. Last buy not least the wry "Endtime House of Prayer" by Paul Graham.

As I said before it was a difficult job. My choices may puzzle some. I did not let my choices depend on size, technique, or medium alone. I love them all, and at the the end of the day, the awards are just one person's opinion on one day. It truly was a pleasure. There are so many fine works included in the show. The strength of the show is a testimonial to the advantages of belonging to the Worthington Area Art League and to how important the league is to foster our vibrant art community.

Thank you again,
